State of the ‘Shell
I think it’s about time for me to do more work on Nutshell. I will probably do another minor release (v1.2.x) before moving on to version 2, which will be a complete rewrite under the .NET framework.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed feedback thus far. Many of your suggestions will be in the next release.
Some of the biggest changes will be:
- Removal of the ‘All Items’ group, to be replaced with an advanced channel adding dialog. You will be able to create smart channels that include filters and search terms from any number of RSS feeds. For example, you could create a channel that shows all ‘unread items’ from any feed in your ‘Blogs’ group that was received ‘today’, and then you could name that channel ‘New Blog Posts for Today’.
- Removal of the other static channels.
- Speed issue fixes.
- Smarter channel reloading.
- Selectable Channels for the Ticker bar and/or multiple Ticker bars.
- Better new item notification.
So that’s the plan… There’s no timeline on that yet, but now that the summer is almost over I will be more likely to spent quality time infront of my PC in the evenings.
